New York Fashion Week has finally kicked off! And the runway is beaming with A-List celebrities from far and wide; to view top fashion brands display their fabulous 2020 Spring and Summer collections. So far, we have already seen model sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid, grace the Ralph Lauren runway. Zendaya showcase her amazing Tommy Hilfiger collection and Rihanna display her breath-taking Savage X Fenty show. Here we go over our favourite hairstyles and hair trends so far from New York Fashion Week.
Hats
Hats were one of the most iconic pieces from the Tommy Hilfiger X Zendeya collection this year. Ranging from flat caps to Headscarves and Fedora Hats. Hats will undoubtedly be in fashion this autumn, as the months get colder; and will have the ability to turn a casual outfit into a lavish dream.
Jewelled Headpieces
The Khaite runway, saw its models dazzle the audience with their stunning Swarovski jewelled headpieces. The look was inspired by Highness Princess Stéphanie of Monaco who in 1987 turned up at a charity ball with strings of sparkling diamantes falling over the top of her head. Stylist Eugene Souleiman, explained that he wanted to make this look less clean and perfect.
Wild Cone Hair
Tomi Koizumi’s collection was one which was the most popular and daring throughout all of fashion week. The Cone-like structured hairstyles on models’ heads was an extraordinarily bold and structured look. Palau suggests securing a foam cone shape at the top centre of your head, layering it in sprays of volume spray foam. Throughout your lengths and ends, slightly tease your hair as you go and then begin layering your hair upwards into the cone shape, using a brush. Once finished layer it in a thick amount of hairspray to keep the hairstyle in place.
Embellished Braids
A fresh take has also been taken on hair accessories as braids embellished with fabric at Jonathan Cohen made an appearance on the runway. Cohen’s inspiration for this trend came from when he saw a Mexican serape blanket that was patched together with the stars of the American flag.” The designer explained ahead of Sunday’s runway presentation. “The statement of it was so powerful.” With the southern border dominating headlines, the found textile was visual proof of two vibrantly entwined cultures.
Fresh and Floral
This fresh and floral style was achieved by giving the Prabal Gurung models a wet look on their hair with a thickening spray. Then adding an allover texture with a curling iron and pulling the hair into a low bun. Flower hairpieces were then added for the fresh and floral look to come altogether.
80’s Inspired Wigs
It looks like 80s hair is making a comeback in the most fashionable way on the Jeremy Scott runway! The models rocked Scott’s ‘imaginary intergalactic rock band’ in multicoloured, punk-esque wigs. Ranging from acid mint to blinding highlighter yellow to silver. The styles were inspired by Jem and The Holograms, an 80s cartoon about a music producer with a badass, punk-singing alter ego.
