Hair Colour Trends Autumn/Winter 2020

HAIR COLOUR TRENDS AUTUMN / WINTER 2020: With so much uncertainty and chaos around the world, in the year that will be spoken about for many years to come, people yearn for change and a reset. Hair may seem trivial to some in these times but never has it been more important for one’s self-esteem to be restored.

Here are Fowler35’s hottest hair colour trend predictions for Autumn/Winter 2020 to inspire and welcome change:

Strawberry Blond Hair Colour

Shades of red have been emerging since the end of 2019, seeing women embrace the warmer side of colour and blondes are no exception. Silver was massive in 2018, but maintenance and inconsistency saw the popularity of the silver mane fall, often resulting in murky ash tones rather than the clean silver sirens women expected. Peach, strawberry and apricot are the delectably desirable hair colour trends in Autumn/Winter 2020. Not only do these soft coppery blondes have variants in tone to suit all skin types they especially add a warm glow against pale skin tones, which is far more flattering and revitalising. Rachel McAdams, Emma Stone and Emma Roberts are examples of how soft coppery tones can brighten and beautify; rocking this look with panache.

High Contrast Hair Colour

Suppose you want to go bold with your colour and channel your inner Dua Lipa than high contrast colour is the choice for you. Not to be mistaken for the dreaded streaks of highlights that graced women’s hair in the ’90s; there is a real art to getting this trend right so make sure you have a thorough consultation with your colourist and agree how bold you would like to go. Face framing highlights and balayage will always flatter and for those brave to go bold a darker contrasting tone throughout the rest of the hair will give you those Dua Lipa vibes. If you opt for a softer version of this trend, then channel Chrissy Teigen who has cleverly placed blonde highlights around her face but blend far more seamlessly with her chocolate base colour. Hight contrast colour adds more glamour and is a lot less maintenance. This colour technique also works in most colour families, if not all; reds, blondes or brunettes and opens a range of different shades and depths

Naturally You | Natural Hair Colour

With salons being closed for the best part of 3 months at the beginning of 2020; women have been forced to either tackle their own colour (please don’t) or embrace their natural roots. For some, this has been a welcome surprise, and thus ‘Natural’ became one of the most requested looks of 2020. Not to be confused with dull and lack of change; women are looking for a natural-looking colour that has a little more flair added by their colourist. This trend epitomises the phrase ‘done but undone’ with carefully selected reflects that complement and add a little something to your natural hair colour. Khloe Kardashian opted to go back to her roots, ditching the blonde and now sporting an earthy walnut brunette which is much closer to her natural colour. Pixie Lott also delighted fans when she posted a picture of her freshly coloured locks; showing off a flattering honey blonde hue and not the icy blonde tone she is more well known for. Make sure you ask your colourist which undertones are best to enhance when going for this look and embrace your inner natural goddess

Opal Hair Colour

For those not wanting to delve into warmer tones and much prefer ashier reflects, then there is also a hair colour trend autumn/winter 2020 for you. Silver (unless natural) may not have the allure it once did, but pearlescent tones are the new poster child for cooler shades. Opal Hair can be translated in all colour families; mauve brunettes, cool copper and pearly blondes. Pink and purple undertones keep these colours soft and clean in contrast to traditional ash colours which can cause build-up and make hair dull and less reflective. Margot Robbie charmed the cameras with her wavy pearly blonde tresses at the Oscars this year, and Soo Joo Park added some edge with a blunt bob and heavy roots. Keep this look from unwanted brassy tones by using L’Oreal Serie Expert Color Corrector at home.

Vivid Vixens | Vivid Hair Colour

Want your hair colour to pack a punch? Then this is the trend for you. Think punk but with a glamorous twist. We’ve seen rainbows adorn windows and shop fronts to support our NHS so why not inject some high impact colour in your hair. The key to nailing this trend is to ensure hair is lifted to its lightest but also keeping the condition healthy, a bonding agent such as Innoluxe (ask your colourist) should be used to avoid any harsh breakage from bleaching. To ensure your chosen colour is as vivid as possible, it will need a complementary base tone before applying the desired shade. Colours can be melted into different variations of the same tone as seen on Irene Kim, a colour chameleon. For maximum impact channel Lizzo who rocked emerald mermaid hair and opt for a uniform bright colour of your choice. Don’t want to pick just one colour? Then take a leaf from Georgia May Jagger’s book and go for two strong colours split between both halves of your hair. This colour is high maintenance and fade should be expected, vivid colour can be topped up in salon between bleaching visits to ensure you keep rocking that punk-glam vibe.
